Vision - best wood im besten Sinne

best wood in the best sense

The future is built on wood So best wood remains the best building material

Wood is a renewable raw material – and short transport distances, combined with the most comprehensive use possible, make it a versatile building material for the future. This is precisely where we come in: the wood from best wood SCHNEIDER always passes through the entire value chain. This means we focus on regional timber, short transport distances and innovative manufacturing processes – all within a closed production cycle that makes truly full use of the spruce trunk. Everything is utilised, from the raw material cut from round timber right down to the very last wood chip pressed into pellets.

Making accountability measurable

We are constantly working to optimise energy consumption in our production processes. The energy management systems at Holzwerk Gebr. Schneider GmbH and best wood SCHNEIDER GmbH Deutschland are certified to DIN EN ISO 50001. This enables us to keep a close eye on our energy consumption and identify further potential for savings.

We ensure transparency regarding the environmental impacts of our timber and wood fibre products through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Furthermore, our products are tested by the Rosenheim Institute for Building Biology in accordance with its testing criteria. In this way, we provide planners and customers with transparent information on the verified environmental and product properties.

The best wood SCHNEIDER material cycle

Regional raw materials

Because we love our homeland, we prioritise short supply chains when sourcing our raw materials: the majority of our products are made from regional spruce sourced from PEFC-certified forests. For specific visible-grade applications, we also use Scandinavian timber at the customer’s request. Our own fleet of lorries combines the delivery of finished products, where possible, with the return transport of round timber. This enables us to avoid additional journeys and source timber from the regions where our products are used.

Efficient sawmill

Even in the past, sawmills were operated with sustainable energies, for example hydropower. We are continuing this tradition. Thus, our sawmill forms the first "cut" in an production cycle that is particularly resource-saving and value-adding:

We feed the residual wood and bark from sawing into the biomass cogeneration plant to generate energy for our production. Only wood that can no longer be processed is used here. Wood chips are used in the production of wood fibres and pellets are made from wood shavings and sawdust. All parts of the tree are used for material or energy purposes.

Structural timber and ceiling production

The sawn timber from our sawmills is processed into various glued laminated timber, CLT, CLT BOX and KVH product ranges for use in structural and modern timber construction. Whether for a detached house or a multi-storey timber building: we supply high-quality timber building materials that impress with their quality and are made from renewable raw materials.

Production of wood fibre insulation boards

The wood chips from the wood processing go directly into the wood fibre insulation board production. This takes place in one of the most modern production facilities for flexible and pressure-resistant wood fibre insulation materials. Here, wood chips are processed into best wood SCHNEIDER® wood fibre insulation boards in an energy-saving dry process in a continuous production line.

Regional pellets

We process the wood shavings and sawdust produced on site into ENplus A1-certified spruce pellets, which are available both in bulk and in bags. We also apply the principle of short supply chains to our energy: we generate the energy we need using our biomass cogeneration plant directly at our production sites.

Own logistics

To ensure the best possible delivery times, we deliver our timber, wood fibre insulation and wood pellets using our own lorries. Using our in-house route planner, we can plan every journey efficiently – and, once our products have been delivered to the building site, we can transport round timber and other raw and auxiliary materials (pallets, etc.) back to our factory in the same journey.

Biomass power plant

Our BIOPOWER biomass combined heat and power plant is fuelled by bark and waste wood that cannot be reused, thereby generating energy from biomass – exactly as much as is required at the sites. The process heat generated is used primarily for drying the wood fibres for our insulation materials, drying sawn timber, in pellet production, and for heating the production halls.

Independently audited. Transparently certified.

PEFC is a transparent and independent system for ensuring sustainable forest management and thus a global "forest MOT". Forest certification according to PEFC standards is based on very strict guidelines for the sustainable management of forests. This management is controlled by competent and independent organisations.
